History

1960 – Business was started by Vince Duncan as a two person family operated heating oil company. The company operated one fuel oil delivery truck and grew from zero gallons in 1960 to almost 2,500,000 gallons in 1978.

1978 – Vince Duncan sold the fuel oil company to Roger McDaniel. The transfer took place during the time the Middle East cut production, creating significant product shortages. The US government placed allocation limits on all petroleum distributors that significantly hindered the company’s ability to grow. In an effort to lessen the economic impact of the allocation of fuel, the company expanded operations into the power equipment and heating and cooling industries.

1980 to 1990 – The Company exited the power equipment and heating and cooling industries and grew its fuel volume to 30,000,000 gallons per year. The customer base expanded from heating oil only, to farm, commercial tank wagon, a couple of company operated convenience stores and transport operations servicing retail dealers, municipalities, manufacturing plants and other customer classes. The company also started a service station maintenance and construction business.

1991 to 1999 – Duncan Oil continued to grow the volume to over 60,000,000 gallons per year, it acquired 30 company operated retail sites and grew the employee base to over 200 people.

2000 to 2010 – In 2004, Duncan developed a fuel center design build and supply program for the independent grocery store operator. It currently supplies over 60 of these sites in 9 states. In 2008, right before the economic downturn began, the company volume topped out at 130,000,000 gallons per year.

With continued downward pressure on retail margins, Duncan Oil began a strategy of transitioning our company operated stores. The company sold, leased or converted to alternate use, most of its 30 stores and currently operates 3 sites.

When the government ramped up its effort to require refiners to blend ethanol with gasoline to reduce dependence on foreign oil, Duncan built an ethanol storage facility across the street from the Lebanon Ohio pipeline terminal in order to take full advantage of the federal blending requirements.

Duncan also started a fuel transportation business, Duncan Oil Transportation Solutions, LLC in an effort to provide freight services to the parent company and also other retail customers. The transportation company currently hauls 60,000,000 gallons per year.
